The Dordogne is a world-renowned gastronomic destination, famous for fois-gras, truffles, strawberries, walnuts, and fresh local meats and produce. The local Bergerac vineyards produce some well-regarded sweet wines and rosés. Traditional restaurant food tends to be very rich and decadent, often featuring duck or goose as the centerpiece of the plat principal, napped with a luxurious sauce. Delicious, and a “must-try” while you are here, but a bit heavy as an everyday diet.
In Belvès itself, we can highly recommend Le Parfum des Mets and La Table du Boudoir for gourmet meals. For lighter fare, L’Echappée is a delightful casual restaurant tucked away off the town square. There is also a Thai restaurant and pizzeria, several cafés, and Planches et Plonk, a wonderful wine and cheese bar run by two Brits.
Farther afield, in the village of La Roque Gageac, La Belle Etoile is an award winning , Michelin recommended gem of a restaurant with outdoor seating on a vine-draped terrace overlooking the Dordogne River.
We’ll be preparing three full dinners during your stay, using fresh local produce, and in addition we propose a communal dinner (included in the price) at a farm-to-table restaurant near Les Ezyies. If you are of a mind to cook yourself, the house you will be staying in has a full kitchen and you can take advantage of one of the many local farmers markets in the area.
